Hooray! It's May Day!
Happy May Day! I can't believe we are already to May! This month is always very busy and seems to fly by. In english, we will be working on adverbs, poetry, and writing. Right now in science we are getting ready for our Crane Foundation field trip by studying about cranes. We will finish up the year with the water cycle and weather. In math, the students are learning about fractions. In social studies, we continue to learn about Wisconsin's history and are getting ready for our trip to Old World Wisconsin. This week the "Buy One Get One" book sale is going on. Students can purchase books during lunch time. It will also be open on Friday morning for Muffins for Mom. Don't forget to stop by and get your tasty treat! Also on Friday, mid-quarter progress reports will be coming home. Be on the look out for these! Enjoy the first day of May!

Where Does the Time Go?
Well, here we are. Almost half way through the month of April! I don't know about you, but I think so far I liked March's weather better! As the days get longer and the temperatures get warmer, we find it more and more difficult to stay focused. I encouraged all of the 4th graders to make the 4th quarter GREAT! Let's get ALL work in on time! Starting next week, we will begin the second round of MAP testing, and everyone's favorite Phy. Ed. unit, roller skating, is just around the corner! Other important dates to remember are the Talent Show on Friday, April 27th, our field trip to the International Crane Foundation on Monday, May 7th, and our field trip to Old World Wisconsin on Tuesday, May 29th. Lots of things are going on this time of year!

Lion or Lamb?
Well, we have made it to the month of March. I hope that spring is just around the corner with warmer temperatures and sunnier skies. Will March come in like a lion or a lamb? We are very busy in the 4th grade. In english, we are writing letters to our pen pals in New Jersey and will begin persuasive writing. In science, we are continuing with our unit on simple machines. Some of the projects are starting to roll in and are looking great. Don't forget that these are due on MONDAY, MARCH 12TH. In math, students are working on solving problems with division. In social studies, we are studying the immigrants of Wisconsin. We are also working very hard to get ready for our music program on Monday, March 19th. March seems to be shaping up to be a very busy month!

Ash Wednesday
Today we celebrated Ash Wednesday. This marks the beginning of our Lenten journey. This year's Lent theme is "Virtues For Lent." What virtues will you work on for Lent? Self-control, patience, forgiveness? As we move through the Lent season, we will be focusing on many virtues. For myself, I am always working to be a better person and to be closer to Christ. This year for Lent I wanted not to focus so much on "giving up" something, but focus more on what I can do to become a better person and help those around me. I encourage everyone to think about the virtues this Lent.

Red and White Day & Volleyball
Today our classroom was a sea of red and white. We also had some very special visitors during our morning. The Open House was from 9am-11am this morning. In English, we are beginning a unit on adjectives. Today we drew pictures and then labeled them with adjectives. It was a lot of fun. This afternoon was the annual student vs. staff volleyball game. I am proud to say the teachers brought their "A" game and won 3 to 0! The 4th graders were cheering us on. Tomorrow is "Spartan Way T-Shirt" day and pizza lunch. Here are pictures from today. Enjoy!

Pajama Day!
I can't think of anything better than wearing pajamas to school! Unless, of course, you're at home wearing your pajamas! We had a fun day today. We listened to Carl Olson speak to us about being the best we can be and making good choices. He was great. He did a lot of magic tricks for us. Here are some pictures from our day. Enjoy the nice weather!

Badger Day!
What a great kick off for Catholic Schools Week! This morning we had two athletes from the UW here to talk to us about the importance of education and making good choices. Badger football player, Shelton Johnson, spoke to us about growing up playing football and his mom being a teacher. Badger basketball player, Mike Bruesewitz, talked to us about balancing school work and athletics. We had lots of fun. What a great way to start our week. Here are some pictures from this morning. Have a great day!

Report Card Day!
Wow! Can you believe that today your child is coming home with their second quarter report card? That means that we are halfway through our school year already! We have had a very busy week here at school. In English, we have been writing narrative descriptions of our bedrooms. We used the 4-Square method to organize our thoughts and then wrote a rough draft. Next week we will be publishing our final copy! In Science, we started our unit on motion. This will lead to our simple machines unit. Next week is Catholic Schools Week. There are lots of fun days planned next week. Have a wonderful weekend.

Rosie!
What a treat! Rosie was out and about this afternoon so we were all able to pet her today! Everyone commented how soft her fur is. As Rosie gets more and more comfortable, I think we will see her out more often. The kids really seem to enjoy her, and I think Rosie likes it too! Here are a couple of pictures of Rosie and her new cage. Enjoy!

Snow!
I don't know about any of you, but I want yesterday's weather back! This snow is for the birds! Winter has certainly descended upon us, and apparently Mother Nature has remembered that we are in the middle of January. With all of this wet stuff, please make sure that students are dressed appropriately for the weather. Snow pants and boots are a must. Enjoy the white stuff, and have a wonderful weekend!

Back At It!
Here we are back into the swing of school. Can you believe that 2nd quarter will be over next week? I sure can't. Please make sure that students are caught up on all their work/corrections before Thursday, January 19th. In english, we are beginning our unit in writing. The students are supposed to bring an object or picture to school tomorrow to write about. In social studies, students are learning the state capitals and are anxiously awaiting when they can take the test! That's all for now. Happy Monday!

Capitol Field Trip
Yesterday was our field trip to the state Capitol. We had a lot of fun exploring the Capitol and learning all the interesting facts about the Capitol. For example, do you know where the first state Capitol was located? We even got to meet Assemblyman Hebl! He told us he attended Sacred Hearts when he went to school! He also told us about working hard to be successful. We had a wonderful trip! Have a wonderful weekend! Here's some pics from yesterday's trip.
